Sticky: It's Me
Dec. 23rd, 2034 10:18 amAbout me:
White Canadian cis woman, she/her, age 40+ (certified fandom old(tm)). Some shade of grey asexual. Employed in media. Eternal cat lady, though I also have a dog who is somehow over 10 years old now (how'd that happen? she is baby!)

I'm a lifelong fantasy fan and video game nerd. I've always been what they call a voracious reader, though since the pandemic began I've mostly only been able to read fanfic; the prospect of a long novel with a new world and characters I have to figure out is quite tiring. Then again, I've read several extremely long danmei novels over the past few years.
What's drawn me to danmei is that it does not generally fall into the same tired structure and tropes that too many Western fantasy/romance/sff novels do. I don't know what's going to happen in the plot. Characters are richly defined and morally complex. Actions have consequences. It's not always easy to separate the characters into good and evil buckets. I don't smell the ghost of Movie Rights standing behind the author telling them that they should cut this or that or add X or Y or to make sure that all the characters are Hot Young Hollywood Types. Plus, truly deep romance. Couples don't just fall in love because one's the Lead Male and the other is The Female.
I hope and try to be respectful of national and cultural backgrounds and perspectives that differ from my own. I am sure I make mistakes; please point these out to me! Be kind, if you can. I've got a touch of the ol' rejection-sensitive dysphoria.
Likely topics of discussion:
I'm not sure yet. This has a very livejournal vibe, so maybe I'll talk about... myself? Perhaps fic that I have read lately, things my cats or dog are doing, how messy my house is.
Current media of interest:
MDZS and the other MXTX books. To a lesser or more sporadic degree: Nirvana in Fire, 2ha, BNHA, Yuri on Ice!!, various other anime (FMA, Erased, Jojo's Bizarre Adventure(s)). TV: What We Do In The Shadows, Our Flag Means Death, some reality shows where people do art and are nice to each other. Many Video Games including Persona 5, Fire Emblem: Three Houses, Dragon Age, Mass Effect and a slew of RPGs and building/cozy games. Oh, and Tetris Effect, which I swear is brain medicine.

Date: 2022-12-24 02:34 am (UTC)I'm looking forward to seeing your posts in the future! =D I've taken to Dreamwidth much better than to Twitter because I get to ramble as long as I want lol. I've never been good at thinking up those pithy one-liners haha. I'm glad more artists are coming over here, though, because twitter's downfall means it's so much harder to interact with the art!

Date: 2022-12-24 04:09 am (UTC)I'm supposed to fly to Montreal tomorrow, and... we'll just see how that goes, won't we?
Is there much of an art community here? I haven't looked, but none of the artists I follow on twt linked here, while many of the writers have. Tumblr is still good for lots of fanart, though.
I like the "fast conversation" of Twitter, but I'm thinking the much more laid-back feeling here is nice. Less reactive posting.

Date: 2022-12-24 04:53 am (UTC)I don't envy the travel to Montreal - I live close ish to there but I'm in Ontario. It's looking really bad... the snow is heavy and the ice is gonna be even worse. We had power outages this morning, but hopefully it'll be better this time!
Idk if there's any art community on DW? But that doesn't mean you can't be part of the start! I do like tumblr, but I'm figuring out how to use it again lol. Twitter is cool cuz you get the immediate engagement, but the longer I was around the more I saw arguing? And I often didn't know which side I was "supposed" to be on? I try to stay out of that stuff, but it creeps in lol. I haven't seen much stuff like that here so far!
