Jan. 10th, 2023 12:13 pmI'd love to post little blurbs about the fic I'm reading or have recently finished, but... that would require me to go through my ereader and find those fics on AO3 then actually mark them as read, leave comments and kudos, etc., and I have SUCH a HUGE backlog (literally hundreds) that the ol' neurospicy all-or-nothing kicks in and I get immediately overwhelmed.
I WILL just say that I reread "The simplest way forward" by harriet_vane and it's still absolutely justified in being one of the classics. The characters just jump off the page. A perfect LWJ, who *we* know has absolute love and care for WWX because of the casual references here and there to how he looks at WWX just a little too long, or purses his lips just a little when WWX talks about the Jiangs, or how he's just a bit too slow or fast to respond here and there... and a perfect WWX who cares so, so much. This was probably the first kidfic I read in which I actually liked the kid. (this was in 2020, I've read many more since! MDZS writers are amazing!) A-Yuan is a full character, realistically childlike and not some precocious miniature adult. He isn't perfect and he isn't just a prop. He invents weird little stories that only kids would understand and his dads love him. Holy shit!
anyway, I am also painting my office room to try to alleviate some of that slightly panicky feeling I currently get every time I enter the room. No more beige/tan: instead, a peaceful teal-green-grey-apparently-perfect colour for calm and some off-white for brightness.
